Behind the scenes, Lynch maintained an intentionally enigmatic approach to directing, often leaving his actors to discover the story through their individual scenes rather than explaining the film’s wider narrative.
Justin Theroux later recalled that Lynch welcomed questions but rarely offered answers, allowing the cast to work without fully understanding how their performances fitted into the larger picture.
Theroux said, “I started asking him questions… When I finished a question, [he’d say], ‘You know, I don’t know, buddy. But let’s find out."
In June 2025, three scripts from the film’s production were sold at Julien’s Auctions, fetching a combined $104,000.
