Mulholland Drive TV Pilot (1999)

Before Mulholland Drive became the film we know today, David Lynch conceived it as a TV pilot for ABC.

Production began in 1998, the network ultimately rejected the series, reportedly finding it too slow, strange, and unconventional.

In 2000, Lynch returned to shoot new material, including the film’s darker second half, allowing Lynch to transform an open-ended television pilot into a complete feature.

What began as a television series that ABC refused to air became one of Lynch’s defining films.
