IF YOU GRAPH THE NUMBERS OF ANY SYSTEM, PATTERNS EMERGE

From our collection, MUSEUM of SCIENCE FICTION: A journey through time, preserving fragments of imagined futures.

Inspired by Darren Aronofsky’s “Pi” (1998) where Max Cohen, a reclusive mathematician believes numbers can expose the hidden order behind everything. The deeper he looks, the less stable reality becomes. His obsession turns to paranoia, conspiracy and self-destruction.

His research and notes inspired our approach to the artwork and design of the keyring. Constructed from 13 stainless-steel cubes, debossed on each side with geometric symbols, Pi’s digits and patterns found in nature. The cubes are threaded and tied onto a waxed cotton cord.

The 13 cubes serve as a physical reference to the mathematical structure of 13 weeks in a season, repeated four times to complete the 52-week year.

Rule 1: Mathematics is the language of nature.
Rule 2: Everything around us can be represented and understood through numbers.
Rule 3: If you graph the numbers of any system, patterns emerge.
