A Shift, Divergence, A Deviation from what is known and what has come before.
For the new SS21 season, SCRT presents DEPARTURES - an examination of film makers, artists and cultures which all embody shared of values of progress, artistic deviation, experimentation and innovation. Coming off of our AW20 season An Ending, Departures presents a collection of new pieces and viewpoints from artists past and present. The season itself plays off of the two definitions of 'a departure', which are as follows;
1. The Act of Leaving:
The beginning of a journey, the distance to come - every great story begins with a departure, some end with one.
2. A Deviation
From what is known, accepted, prescribed. Refusing complacency, creating one's own genre - A conscious deviation.
For the season we have examined the work from three artists and figureheads that embody and share values found within these definitions -
The Neo-Expressionist Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Eccentric and surrealist Film-Maker David Lynch and the myth of Abraxas - a term of mysticism found in the ancient culture of Gnosticism. We will also be dropping new pieces with returning collaborators Brandon Celi and Butler Archive alongside brand new collabs with artists Chris Harnan and Luci Pina.
Departures features new print, accessories and Cut & Sew items all focussing on these reference points and themes. Printed short-sleeve Cuban shirts also make a return this season alongside all-over print sets and bold graphic tees.
As usual, the season will also see us collaborating with an array new artists and designers, with further capsule releases to come later in the year.
