FREDERICK GROVE x SCRT®

Recently we caught up with Frederick Grove to chat artistic backgrounds and to explore the creative process behind crafting the Philosophy Ring; our recent collaboration. SCRT has been a fan of Frederick Grove’s work since his first shop opened on Brick Lane, where we instantly loved the creative space behind the counter. When Fred opened his new spot just around the corner, we started talking about collaborating, and with the launch of our Philosophy Capsule, it felt like the perfect time to make it happen.

Get an inside look at the artistry and craftsmanship which goes into each made-to-order ring.

Hey Fred, it’s been great collaborating with you. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself/ the company?

Of course, so my name’s Frederick Grove, I’m a third generation jeweller based in Shoreditch, I’ve been making jewellery as far back as I can remember, I was lucky enough to be born into a family of jewellers so I’ve been surrounded by it all my life. The brand started in brick lane in 2015, we opened up the store on Club Row a couple years ago now so we’re coming up to 10 years in the business!

Anything in particular that drew you to working with/making jewellery?

Growing up in a jewellery workshop I’ve always been interested in the production side of jewellery (playing with fire) but it wasn’t till I hit the teenage years that I became more interested in fashion and really fell in love with jewellery design.

Who are your biggest artistic inspirations, and what do you draw most from in your work?

Most of my pieces are inspired by Renaissance art and the Heraldic crests of the 1800’s, I’d have to say the classics, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello and Claude Paradin.

Can you talk us through the process behind making the ring/s ?

All my pieces start in wax and the design is hand carved to the finished shape, it’s then moulded with silicone and replicas are cast up in Silver and Gold before being polished by hand in our workshop.

What is the history behind the clasping hands?

The clasping hands are inspired by the Irish Claddagh Ring but I love the miscellaneous meanings behind the handshake, in this case a collaboration.

What did you like about Donnie Darko?

Asides from the psychological suspense the first thing to come to mind is the colour grading and the incredible sound track.

Thanks Fred!
