MoSF Soundscape Vinyl

From our MUSEUM of SCIENCE FICTION collection: A journey through time, preserving fragments of imagined futures.

Original score inspired by Museum of Science Fiction references made in collaboration with Chris Kinsey, a composer, producer & sound designer whose interests lie in more left-field styles of electronic music.

This release is a 12-inch black vinyl housed in a screen-printed PVC outer wallet, with five distinct cover art options referenced by MoSF. It includes a 60 x 60 cm double-sided poster finished with spot gloss UV printing, alongside a double-sided outer sleeve. The vinyl itself is laser-etched and assembled with replicant-grade precision, with listening privileges authorised by HAL_9000. The total duration is 24 minutes.

First edition limited press of 250 units.

"Being able to work with SCRT®, a brand that I've loved for years, was a great experience - their intersection of fashion and film, and now music, opened the floodgates when it came to inspiration for this project. Aiming to capture the tones of certain landmark films without directly musically referencing them made for a really fun challenge that led me into creating entire worlds of fictional soundscapes. I was kind of allowed to soundtrack some of my favourite films by proxy. I had a blast making it." - Chris Kinsey, Composer

The score references many of the Museums inspirations, which we carried this across into the design of the sleeve. Built around a series of concentric circles and radial forms, the design is influenced by the graphic language and aesthetic that appear across the Museums exhibits.

Cover 01: Surveillance

George Lucas’ debut presents a future defined by constant observation. Cameras, public address systems and machine intelligence enforce absolute conformity in THX 1138, presenting technology as an instrument of control rather than progress.

We echoed this in the main cover, with the embracing couple viewed through a Monitoring HUD.

Cover 02: Discovery

Stanley Kubrick’s vision of space exploration redefined science fiction through its meticulous design and engineering. Every spacecraft, station and interface was conceived with scientific realism, establishing a visual language that continues to shape depictions of the future.

The Discovery One was designed as a practical deep space ship rather than a conventional rocket. With design reflecting contemporary aerospace thinking of the 1960s.

One of the most iconic scenes features the large circular rotating carousel constructed for artificial gravity scenes. We used this circular shape of Space Station V for the second cover.

Cover 03: Neo-Tokyo

Triggered by Tetsuo’s awakening, a vast psychic energy sphere consumes Neo-Tokyo, transforming one of science fiction’s most iconic explosions into a symbol of uncontrollable evolution.

The destruction of Neo-Tokyo remains one of cinema’s most iconic images, a single expanding sphere of light that marks the collapse of an entire civilisation.

We referenced this explosion of psychic energy on cover 3.

Cover 04: Tears in Rain
Designed to detect replicants, the Voight-Kampff machine analyses involuntary eye responses to emotionally provocative questions. The absence of empathy reveals their artificial nature.Fully original score made in collaboration with @kinseysound, a composer, producer & sound designer whose interests lie in more left-field styles of electronic music.
